Peter Lehmann has immensly concentrated, low-yeild furit combined with skilled winemaking which creates this great Australian Shiraz. In 1959, Peter was offered the lucrative position of Winemaker/Manager at a Barossa winery called Saltram where he worked for 20 years. A serious grape surplus came with the 1977 vintage, worsening in 1978. Many wine companies turned their backs on local growers and cancelled agreements, including the company Peter worked for. Peter knew this would be detrimental to the growers, many of whom he had been dealing with for nearly two decades, and could not accept the corporate policy.
These wines show plenty of paneforte/plum/chocolate aromas, sweet fruit, structured tannins, well-seasoned oak flavours and tremendous length.
